Sofia Menteguiaga and Ovidiu Iancu danced the roles of Marguerite and Armand Friday. It was the first time we’ve seen these two dancers work together and they have the makings of an excellent partnership.
The long pas de deux that ends the first act was a marvelous display of technique, strength, flexibility and interaction that never obscured the purpose of the scene: a teasing seduction, as Marguerite continually if gently asserts herself as the dominant partner, controlling Armand as she has others until her final, almost surprising acquiescence, if Marguerite had, almost against her will, fallen in love.
"I always love the dramatic roles," said Tulsa Ballet principal dancer Sofia Menteguiaga. "They can be so cathartic."

Principal dancer Sofia Menteguiaga was an excellent Flora, Dracula’s first conquest who becomes the leader of his minions. She brought real fire to the part, whether confronting the villagers or soaring through the air (of all the dancers who “flew” during the evening, Menteguiaga seemed the most at ease above the stage).

The character of Flora has another dimension that Menteguiaga has never had the chance to explore before now - namely, she's able to fly.

"The second pas de deux, with principal dancer Sofia Menteguiaga and new senior soloist Ovidiu Iancu, was more powerfully romantic because it was very much a highly charged give-and-take, as pursuer and pursued, passion and resistance, kept shifting between the two. Then, right as this duet reached a moment of crisis, suddenly a quartet of couples burst onto the stage, interrupting this passionate conversation, postponing the ultimate, exquisite conclusion."

"Demands on the dancers require intense dramatic focus, Herculean strength and athletic skill. Stunning Tulsa Ballet ballerinas Sofia Menteguiaga and Alexandra Bergman both excelled (on consecutive nights) as “The Chosen One”— each with long strands of dark hair flying in the action to become part of the artistic drama of a character under siege on a stage set to minimally express contemporary background, aided by strikingly choreographed lighting techniques. Brava to these exceptionally powerful and graceful leading ladies who rose to the intensity of this production with amazing stamina and artistry — not for the faint of heart."

"As the Chosen One, Menteguiaga is mesmerizing. She goes at this punishing role full-out, so that the character’s emotions – fear, desperation, defiance, resignation, even the occasion glimmer of hope – are palpably expressed. And the climactic moment – as a steady cascade of harsh light and sparkling water falls on here – just about stops the heart."

"In this, her first season with Tulsa Ballet, audiences have enjoyed seeing her leading roles in such diverse dazzlers as Ronald Hynd’s “The Merry Widow,” Twyla Tharp’s “Nine Sinatra Songs,” and Jiri Kylian’s “Sechs Tanza.” Brava to a superb leading lady."

"TULSA—World-class ballet in Oklahoma continued with eight recent performances of Tulsa Ballet artistic director Marcello Angelini’s elegant and original Art Deco-costumed “The Nutcracker” (set in 1920’s Paris) at the Tulsa Performing Arts Center. Newly included in leading roles is charismatic new Tulsa Ballet “up and coming” senior soloist, Argentine Sofia Menteguiaga, who recently made her impressive debut here as a stunning Merry Widow.”

I so look forward to sharing her accomplishments and charisma with our audience”

Los mas destacados bailarines internacionales y nacionales estuvieron allí; (...) Bailarinas argentinas, (...) Sofia Menteguiaga, que hoy triunfan aqui y en las principales companias de danza del mundo. Se formaron en el estudio y son alumnas muy queridas por Olga. Cada vez que están en el pais, ensayan en el estudio.
